The murder of Reena Virk

Reena Virk (March 10, 1983 – November 14, 1997)

Reena Virk was a fourteen year old teen from Saanich, British Columbia. She would have been turning fifteen on March 10, 1983 but sadly, she never made it.

Reena was originally from India and transferred to Canada as a child. Her immediate family was described as “a minority within a minority,” as they were of the Jehovah’s Witness religion in the local South Asian community of 3,000 which was predominantly Sikh.

She always had a hard time in school, constantly getting bullied due to her accent and looks and because she was ”different,”

On the night of Friday November 14, 1997, Reena was invited to a “party” by her friend near the Craigflower Bridge, a popular hangout spot, west of the city of Victoria, British Columbia. She heard rumors that her bullies were going to go there and ‘beat her up’ but that didn’t stop her from continuing her life. At first everything was fine, Reena was enjoying herself and the group were said to be drinking and smoking. But then, the “Shoreline six” arrived, a group of girls known to bully Reena. They swarmed the teen.

(NOTE: The six female perpetrators are referred to in court documents as N.C., N.P., M.G.P., C.A.K., G.O., and K.M.E. N.C. is known to be Nicole Cook and M.G.P is known to be Missy Pleese, though her middle name is still unknown. Both have admitted involvement. Kelly Ellard, the ring-leader, was referred to in some documents as K.M.E. prior to her identification.)

Witnesses who were at the Bridge that night would later say that one of the Shoreline bullies stubbed out cigarettes on Reena’s forehead, while the others stood by and watched, some even laughing.

The ringleader was a teen named Kelly Ellard, a girl who had strongly disliked Reena for reasons unknown.

Reena was then taunted, repeatedly hit, punched and kicked. She was visibly upset and scared but got no sympathy from her attackers who put out several more cigarettes threw-out her body and then yanked her hair and attempted to light it on fire.

This first beating ended when one of the girls stepped up and told the others to stop. This was the only attempt made by all that were there that night, to stop the attack.

Reena attempted to walk away from the group, but was followed by two Kelly Ellard, William Glowatski and an accomplice.

Warren Glowatski (16)

The pair dragged Reena to the other side of the bridge, no longer in view of the others. They forced her to remove her shoes and jacket. At this point Reena was sobbing, begging them to stop as she layed on the ground shivering. They ignored her pleas and started punching and kicking her as she tried to shield herself.

Glowatski had no problems with Reena but he decided to join in, kicking Reena twice in the head.

Sometime during the beating, Ellard smashed Reena’s face onto a tree, knocking her unconscious. With the help of Glowatski, Ellard dragged Reena’s body near the water. At this point she was not unconscious and was begging her attackers to stop. She was ignored.

Ellard forced Reena’s head under water at the George Waterway. She was holding Reena’s head down by her foot. Glowatski stood by, watching. Reena struggled, desperately trying to save her own life. Reena’s struggle became weaker until finally she stopped moving.

She was dead.

Despite an alleged pact amongst the people involved to not “rat each other out”, by the following Monday rumors of the alleged murder spread throughout Shoreline Secondary School, where Virk was a student. Several uninvolved students and teachers heard the rumors, but no one came forward to report it to the police. The rumors were confirmed eight days later, on November 22, 1997, when police using a helicopter found Reena’s partially clothed body washed ashore at the George Waterway.

The coroner completed the autopsy and ruled her death was by drowning. However, it was later revealed that she had sustained significant injury, and that the head injuries were severe enough to have killed her if she had not been drowned.

Ellard was sentenced to life in prison after three trails. She still maintains her innocence and shows no sympathy for the crime committed.

Glowatski was sentenced to life in prison but because he was a minor at the time, he had a chance of parole. Reena’s parents didn’t contest his 2004 court hearing, claiming they’ve forgiven him because he showed remorse and owned up to his actions. He was denied however.

Manjit and Suman Virk, the parents of Reena Virk, were devastated with their daughters murder  and at first, they harbored a deep hatred for her attackers. A time when Manjit Virk would have liked nothing more than to wring the neck of Warren Glowatski, one of two teenagers convicted of murdering his daughter, Reena, “as if he were a chicken.”

Photo of Manjit and Suman Virk

But in the fall of 2005, when the two came face to face in a semicircle of chairs in the basement of a church, something very different happened.

“It was the most unusual experience I had encountered in my life,” the Victoria father later recounted in his book, Reena: A Father’s Story.

“My daughter’s killer was shaking hands with me.”

This remarkable act of reconciliation is often cited as an example of the potential of restorative justice – the concept that true healing after a crime doesn’t necessarily come from harsher punishments but rather from the coming together of criminal and victim, giving them a chance to understand one another and work to repair the harm done.

Both of the Virks also spoke at the hearing, telling the panel that healing cannot begin until an offender owns up to their actions.

Suman Virk said that Glowatski’s statement on Wednesday is “huge,” and was tremendously helpful to the couple.

The Virks also said they think the young man is on the right path, and that they supported him getting unescorted absences as he continues to serve his life sentence.

The panel members agreed, noting Glowatski’s positive record while in prison. His next step will be to apply for full day parole.

At the end of the hearing, Glowatski thanked the Virks, giving each of them a hug.

Years after the murder, on the other side of Canada, students had participated in a play titled ”The Holding Room” which was based on Reena Virk’s murder. An online user who was a student at the high-school wrote on a forum:

2 years ago, the drama program at my school wrote and performed a play called The Holding Room based on the murder of Reena Virk. It was originally intended as a competition piece for a school theatre competition but it ended up attracting a lot of attention and resulted in Reena’s parents coming from the other side of the country to see it. Even though I don’t really act anymore, this entire show experience was one of the best of my life.

Norfolk man tortured to death by his ‘drinking buddies’ earlier this year in a sadistic murder similar to Resident Evil video-game

Derek Blake, 44, who met his killers in a hostel, was a vulnerable and mentally fragile man

Derek Blake (pictured) was tortured to death earlier this year in a flat located in his hometown of Yarmouth, Norfolk, the same town where his sadistic killers lived

Derek Blake was a 44-year-old man from Norfolk who was described as very vulnerable and mentally fragile. He had issues with consuming alcohol but was described as a ‘happy drunk.’ Earlier this year he had met Ricky Roys, Andrew Brown and Helen Cooke at a local hostel and from there, the four of them became ‘drinking buddies.’

Killers, from left: Ricky Roys, 20, Andrew Brown, 42, and Helen Cooke, 19. Roys told a witness the murder was 'like something out of Resident Evil'

From left: Ricky Roys, 20, Andrew Brown, 42, and Helen Cooke, 19

Roys, Andrew and Cooke are all from St Nicholas Road, Great Yarmouth and according to sources, the three had drinking problems. Roys had lived a very crazy and drunken lifestyle and Cooke had begun drinking at thirteen, dropped out of highschool in her mid-teens and was living with her parents prior to her new home at the prison cell.

On May 24, 2012 he was lured to a hostel in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, by the sadistic group where he met his death. At the flat, Blake was subjected to  ‘sadistic’ levels of torture, described as being similar to the horror series Resident Evil.

Blake was discovered dead, emerged in a bath full of water in a flat in his hometown of Great Yarmouth, According to the pathologist, the murdered man hadn’t died from drowning and was placed in the water after his death. He had over 100 injuries threw-out his body. The Norwich Crown Court listened to grueling testimony describing the  ‘painful and humiliating’ ordeal involving the use of a boning knife and claw hammer, Norwich Crown Court heard.

The attacked was dragged-out, making the ordeal even more torturous and according to testimony, Blake was most likely conscious threw most of the attack and was most likely in ‘extreme pain’

One of his killers later compared the alcohol-fuelled attack to Resident Evil.  A series of horror movies that involve blood and gore.

The attack included pouring boiling water over Mr Blake, inflicting cuts and burns all over his body and torturing him with a pool cue. During the torture session, the letter J was carved into his face.

When police were called to the flat, they found the murder weapons which included A claw hammer, a boning knife and another knife.

The three killers are seen getting on to a bus, including Cooke at the back, carrying bags full of their victim's blood-stained clothing after the attack

CAUGHT ON TAPE: The three murderers stepping onto a public bus after the horrific attack. Cook is seen in the back, carrying bags which hid the victim’s blood-soaked clothes

Shortly after the murder, the three went on to describe their horrendous deeds to people they knew.

Cooke, a drop-out who started drinking age thirteen, told one person who became a witness: ‘We battered him.’

Roys told another: ‘It was like something out of Resident Evil.’ – Roys defense claimed he had lived a very out of control lifestyle which involved alot of drinking.

Brown’s defense claimed he was to ‘consumed with alcohol to remember many of the events that night.

Judge Peter Jacobs said: ‘This was a murder involving sadistic conduct. ‘This went far beyond a punishment beating and the infliction of this many injuries confirms you intended to kill him. You had been overtaken by the gravity of your own actions. ‘It is obvious Brown took the lead but this must be balanced against the obvious sustained involvement of each person.

Roys, Brown, and Cooke were sentenced to life imprisonment with Roy serving twenty-years before being eligible for release, Brown serving a minimum of twenty-three years and Cooke serving a minimum of eighteen.

After the court hearing, the family of Derek Blake issued a statement saying: ‘This has been a very trying time for all our family.

‘These three people have left three daughters without a father and their children without a granddad. They have also taken a much loved son, brother, uncle and friend.

‘While we do not think that any sentence would be long enough due to the brutal, torturous and sadistic nature of Derek’s murder, we believe justice has been served and these people will be locked up for a long time unable to harm any other members of the public.’

The latest Resident Evil game, Resident Evil 6, was released in early October, 2012.

The fifth instalment of the film series, Resident Evil: Retribution, came out in cinemas in these recent months.

Both feature scenes of extreme violence and gore. The games involve killing enemies using a range of weapons.

Human Skull

11/21/12 SWEDAN —

A woman in southwestern Sweden took “boning” to a new level, police contend, and may face up to two years in the slammer.

The 37-year-old woman is accused of necrophilia and was formally charged on Tuesday at the Gothenburg District Court for the crime of “violating the peace of the dead.”

Police were initially notified that a gunshot had been fired from the woman’s apartment in September, which led to the alleged discovery of 100 skeleton parts in her apartment.

While searching her home, the police reportedly also found a CD titled “My Necrophilia” as well as photographs in which a woman is shown being intimate with the skeleton’s parts, including licking a skull, according to the Swedish news agency TT.

However, the woman has denied the charges, claiming she collected the bones out of historical interest, according to the AP.

The Unfavored Child – Sean Michael Sowards

Sean Michael Sowards was born on September 23, 2004 to Crystal Conklin and Michael Sowards of Warren, Michigan, who had been together for 8 years. Baby Sean was Michael and Crystal’s first-born son, they also had a little girl, Angelique “Angel” who was a year older.

In 2003, the girl tested positive for weed in her system, DHS provided services to the family.

In 2005 DHS received a report that Crystal was beating on Sean, they said she would wake the baby up just to beat on him. DHS was told “She doesn’t want him and only kept him because the father wanted him,”

Elizabeth Herd, Sean’s paternal grandma also called DHS;

“My concerns were Sean was being injured in his home,” she said. “I told them my 4-month-old grandson was being spanked by his mother because he wouldn’t stop crying.” She said she was told that “unless he is seriously injured or dead, they would not investigate.” and “They said parents have a right to discipline their children, and it was none of my business,” she said.

In 2006 Elizabeth was told by Crystal that her grandson had an eye infection, it was after this that she was kept away from Sean. Elizabeth also reported that she saw bruises and cuts on Sean but was always told that Angel did it.

Sean Michael and Angel Sowards

Michael came home from work on the evening of June 11, 2007 and saw his son in desperate need of medical attention. Sean was laying in bed unconscious in his own vomit. He picked his son up and rushed him to the emergency room at St. John Oakland General Hospital where it was learned that he had extensive head and brain trauma among many other injuries that were new and old.

When Sean arrived at the hospital he was unresponsive, covered in bruises and cuts from head-to-toe, he had a cut on his forehead that should have received stitches but was already healing, his toenails on his big toes were torn away, replaced with blood, he was essentially blind from from his eyes being burnt from most likely nail polish remover being poured on them, he had a broken finger, bite-marks and was underweight.

Sean was then transferred to St. John Hospital in Detroit for emergency surgery. Although the doctors did a heroic job and worked on baby Sean in surgery to relieve the fluid on his brain he still died 2 days later on June 13th. It was at this point his tragic nightmare-ish life story began to unfold in the news.

Crystal and Michael both were arrested on the 13th. On the 14th, after investigators spoke with Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office they released Michael from jail. Crystal was charged with felony murder and child abuse.

The couples 3-year-old daughter Angel was placed into the custody of Macomb County Child Protective Services. She was never abused, Sean was the only target of his mothers hatred.

Crystal was 7 ½ months pregnant and complained of labor pains so she was taken to the hospital. She returned to her cell as soon as they discovered there was nothing wrong with her.

During Crystal’s arraignment she cried uncontrollably and Judge Walter Jakubowcski Jr. told her he wasn’t impressed with her theatrics and said she was a danger to all children and he hoped God would save her soul before setting her bond at $500,000 cash.

Crystal and Michael told Krystal Magnan, a DHS worker;

” that he (Sean) was clumsy and he would bump into walls a lot, and (his sister) was physically aggressive toward him. She also said DHS investigated 2 complaints but they were not serious and were closed. “She didn’t really give me answers,” Magnan said. “She piggy-backed on what the dad said, what Mr. Sowards said.”

These excuses would be used many times by Crystal when talking about Sean’s injuries.

On April 18th Dr. Marcus DeGraw of St. John Hospital in Detroit testified against Crystal saying that;

“There was a repetitive infliction of pain for discipline, almost a torture scenario,” “He was abused … repetitively throughout his existence.”

Dr. Degraw treated Sean in the hospital and said he died of blunt force trauma to the head, a single blow “causing immediate symptoms.” He said the type of injury Sean had is what you would see in a high speed accident or falling from a window several floors high.

He said that Sean was undernourished and half the weight a child should be at for his age. During his testimony he said;

“To me, it was neglect, a restriction of food,” DeGraw said. “You would have to work extremely hard to make a child not gain weight like that.” You can feed a child 5 meals a week and he will still gain weight.”

Forensic nurse, Marnie Van Dam said in court that Sean had over 3 dozen bruises from head-to-toe and was covered in cuts and abrasions. His big toe toenails were ripped off, Sean’s eyelids were red and swollen and his corneas were cloudy. His bruises were in various stages of healing, proving that his abuse was recurring.

Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz agreed that Sean died of non-accidental blunt-force trauma to the head.

Assistant Macomb prosecutor Therese Tobin told reporters”He was battered head to toe,” “He was basically blind” from being shaking or hit on the head.

Photos of Sean’s battered and beaten little body were shown to jurors, pictures of his bed room were also included. There was blood covering the closet walls, the door, his sheets and the carpets. There was also blood on his clothes on the utility room floor and in the washer were more clothes with blood and the stench of vomit according to Officer Marlene Niedermeier.

Mathew Conklin, Crystal’s uncle testified that she treated Angel a lot different than Sean. He said he once warned her about it when Sean tried to climb up in her lap saying “Mommy, mommy” and she grabbed him by his forehead and pushed him back forcefully. Mathew said the boy hit his head hard enough it bounced off of the coffee table “like a ball.”

He said when Sean started crying;

“Angel looked at me and started screaming. She (Crystal Conklin) put her attention to Angel. She picked up Angel and said, ‘Poor Angel.’” “Angel got all the positive attention and positive interaction,” he said. “It seemed Sean was always dished off to the side.”

Mathew stated that Crystal and Michael stayed with him for weeks at a time due to their financial situation.

He also said while being sworn in and questioned by Prosecutor Therese Tobin that he believed Sean had not developed correctly for his age because of how he was treated by his mother. Crystal complained frequently that the baby cried all the time and never slept through the night.

“She was very upset at his crying,” he said. “She once said that something was wrong with him and then said she thought he was doing it on purpose.”

Mathew also testified that “Sean’s face was always covered with blankets” and she tried to keep him in his playpen down in the dark, wet basement or out in the garage so she didn’t have to deal with him.

Mathew also saw bruises and cuts on the boy but was given the same excuse as everyone else.

When Mathew was cross-examined by defense attorney Ronald Goldstein he said his niece did come to his home while Sean was in the hospital and she was upset and nervous. She told him that Sean had a seizure.

When Michael Sowards’ initially took the stand he said that he had not seen his girlfriend hit their son. He retorted and later testified that he did see her hit him. He said the reason he lied in the beginning was;

“at the time I couldn’t believe she could do that to my son. I didn’t believe what was happening. It was a nightmare. I didn’t think someone who I cared about so much could do that to my son. I believed she was excessive at times, but I didn’t believe she was capable.”

Michael also acknowledged his role by saying he didn’t do enough to stop the abuse of his son.

Cpl. Chad Richardson also testified and said that he interviewed Crystal twice. She told him that Sean vomited and she put him in his bed. She checked on him later and said “Seany, Seany” and he would not wake up. That was when she noticed that he had vomited a couple more times.

In the 2nd interview she said her and Sean were in the bathroom and he “slipped and fell, and she couldn’t catch him in time,” but that she never laid a hand on the child other than for discipline. Cpl. Richardson told the court “She said he was acting like a ping pong ball bouncing against the walls in the hallway,”

“We had her in custody for seven hours and she did not ask once about her son,”

Michael at Sean's funeral

Michael at Sean’s funeral

Kathleen Conklin said she visited her sister the weekend before Sean’s death and his legs were both in one pants leg to restrict him from moving. It was normal for Crystal to wrap him in 2 blankets and either put him in a car seat or high chair so he wasn’t able to move around. She said she didn’t feel like her sister loved Sean “there was always so much anger towards him.”

When the prosecutor asked Kathleen how she thought her sister, Crystal felt about Angel she said, “She loved Angel. Angel was allowed to be a kid. She allowed her to play.”

Crystal suddenly had her own version of the story that Michael was the one that abused and murdered Sean except she had not mentioned one word about it until she took the stand that very day.

Attorney Tobin said in closing arguments;

“Michael Sowards failed his son. He admitted that to you,” Tobin told the jury. “He will answer for that later.” She also asked the jurors to consider both testimonies, Michael’s and Crystal’s.

Sean's marker

Sean’s marker

“Sean’s last week was spent almost blind. He would put his hand over his eye for some comfort, for some assistance. He was a 2-year-old walking around the house. He was trying to find his own way with this own hands,” Tobin said. “If your child couldn’t see, do you let him feel his way around the house or do you get him in a car, or get him in an ambulance and get him to a doctor? The reason [Conklin] didn’t is the dirty little secret. Sean was abused.”

“For some reason, Crystal Conklin did not treat her son the way she treated her daughter. Why is that? I don’t know,” Tobin said. “What we know are the ramifications of those feelings. What we know is that there was a bruised and battered Sean for whatever reason”

Michael cried through much of the court proceedings and said “The only thing that matters, is justice for my son,”

Crystal Conklin was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. She was also given 9-15 years for the first degree child abuse charge and it will run concurrently.

On July 10th Michael Sean Sowards was sentenced to 9 months in jail and five years probation for second degree child abuse for failing to be aware of, stop or report the abuse.

Michael read the following letter in court;

Your Honor, Mrs. Tobin,

Everyone has regrets and choices in their life that they wish they could change or do over, do differently. I know I do! I just want to say, I love my children! I love them with all my heart! They were the most precious gift in my life and anyone who knows me knows how much I loved them. I made extremely bad decisions. I stayed in a very bad relationship in the hope that I could fix things, I could make everyone happy, or make everything ok as long as I never gave up trying. My judgment, my entire thinking process was clouded by years of verbal, mental, physical abuse and manipulation by a very ill woman. But never in my worst nightmares did I even think that all of this could ever happen. Like the saying, “Hind site is always 20/20″. Now that I have had time to reflect and have been away from Crystal for some time. I realize now more than ever how beat down mentally I was. But I kept thinking to myself, I had a baby on the way, plus Angel and Sean and all I wanted was for us to be a family. And the harder I tried the worse Crystal would be. Of course I wish I had left her, but she made that almost impossible. Your honor I failed my son, my children. But I always loved them and I never hurt them. I tried my best with what I knew and what I thought at the time was possible. But always that wasn’t enough. Losing my son, my daughter, my babies has crushed me! I can’t imagine any kind of pain worse than that of losing your children. I would give my life in a heartbeat for the chance to change things, to leave Crystal and protect my son. That’s my regret.

He has also given up parental rights to Angelique and Brianna so that they may have a better life.

Sean's family is very active in child abuse awareness and activism.

Sean’s family is very active in child abuse awareness and activism.

Crystal’s whole defense was that she was a “battered woman” that was scared to death of her boyfriend Michael. She attempted to blame Michael for Sean’s murder and abuse and said that she could not tell or Michael would retaliate on her.

Crystal lied from the moment she was arrested and she is probably lying as you are reading this article. She changed her story so many times and had absolutely no evidence to back up her story. Her own family knew she was rotten and once they were sworn in they had no choice but to tell the truth about how despicable she was because they didn’t want to be held in contempt.

Crystal even tried to blame her son’s death on her own child, Angel. Can you imagine the damage that would do to a child if she were to ever find out that her own mother blamed her for that.

In what scenario is it ever ok to spank a 4-month-old for crying? I don’t understand what reasoning DHS used when they said there was no reason to investigate the claim of abuse because “parents have a right to discipline their children” Elizabeth Herd, Sean’s grandmother said there were 10-12 complaints filed with DHS that went unnoticed.

As mentioned before Crystal attempted to claim the “battered partner syndrome” however no one believed her. In fact, it was believed that Michael was actually physically, mentally and emotionally abused by Crystal and perhaps was to weak to leave Crystal and protect his son from her.

This in no way excuses the fact that Michael had the responsibility to protect his son from being abused. He was the adult and Sean was the helpless child.

With that being said, there are not nearly enough resources for men that are abused. Men are supposed to be strong, be the protectors and the head of the household. Main stream society doesn’t accept weakness’s in men. It’s estimated that out of 100 domestic violence situations 40 of those involve men as the victim. It’s said that even those numbers may be a lot higher because a lot of men won’t come forward because of the stigma attached.

It’s hard to get women to report abuse even after all the programs that are offered, when is the last time you saw a commercial for a men’s shelter or abuse hotline for DV? If you see a man with a bruised face what’s your first reaction? I think it’s pretty obvious we have a lot of work to do in this area.

Elizabeth and Danny Herd are very active in their community and work to prevent child abuse. Thank you for making a difference in so many children’s lives. Through you, Sean’s memory will always live on.

The brutal Murder of Dystiny Myers

The picture above is Dystiny Myers, she was a 15-year-old high school student in Santa Maria, California. She was placed in a group home after her mom went to jail 2 months before her murder for a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of an illegal drug.

She was raised by her grandmother and everyone who knew her described her as being full of life. Her Pastor, Rick Bloom said she loved to sing and perform. He also said she was the lead in the majority of the children’s choir programs. She also attended church camps and consistently volunteered to feed the homeless.

She dreamed of being a model and even won a local competition. She could be the all-American girl right?

Pastor Bloom told reporters, “Everyone thinks about what we could have done. I know her grandmother and she did the best she could in very difficult circumstances,” “She didn’t get a chance to grow out of whatever she was going through,” Bloom said.

Dystiny’s 7th grade science teacher Mr. Bob Quirk said “She could have gone to college she could have done anything. Very bright. Very talented person. Sang. She was in our talent show,”

It wont let me post up the video right now so to view Dystiny singing in a school Talent Show, click link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vA_lIm9J6zM&feature=player_embedded (Dystiny starts singing at 3:35)

She looks like any other normal teenager in this picture but unfortunately she got caught up with some adults that she shouldn’t have. She ran away from the home and stayed with Rhonda Wisto, a known drug addict and alleged dealer.

On September 26, 2010 the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s office received a phone call at 5AM to come to a location and investigate a body that was found on the outskirts of town. At first it was the fire department who showed up believing there was a grass fire but they soon found out that wasn’t the case. Deputies would soon find out that the person that was purposely thrown into shallow grave and set on fire was a 15-year-old local girl.

Later that day deputies arrested Jason Greenwell (20), Ty Michael Hill (28), Frank York(19) and Rhonda Wisto (47). They are all being charged with Dystiny Myers murder and special circumstances of torture, kidnapping and aiding and abetting.

The following day Cody Lane Miller (20) was arrested. He was in the hospital receiving care for his injuries.

All five of them are being held without bail and they have all entered not guilty pleas.

On October 4 the news released an article that said perhaps Dystiny was not the girl everyone thought she was, they also released this picture of her. It was from her MySpace account.

Dystiny takes a photo of herself, her appearance is slowly changing

In reality Pastor Bloom says she was once that girl he spoke of earlier on but she had gotten off track in the last year and lost her way.

Sadly, Dystiny had begun hanging out in the streets where she called herself “Spa3dz” and her past times included partying, drinking hard liquor, getting high and smoking “cancer stix” as she called them.

Rhonda Wisto, the mother of Jason Greenwell, urged her son to go through with the horrific murder of Dystiny Myers. She also helped the group hid her body.

She also started hanging out in known drug dealers houses that had been raided in the past. Mr. Quirk, her former teacher said she dropped out of school after the first 5 weeks of high school. “If a kid like this can end up in this situation, it can happen to anybody,” Quirk said.

On February 7, 2011 all 5 suspects appeared in court for their pre-trial hearings. Normally a first degree murder charge would carry a 25 to life sentence but since there are special circumstances in Dystiny’s murder they can all be sentenced to death or life without parole.

Photo of Ty Hill who took part in Dystiny’s murder, he was also the one who shot her up with heroin moments before the attack
Ty Hill admitted to shooting Dystiny up with heroin before they beat her, he shot her up every night so she wouldn’t have suspected anything was wrong.

He then started beating the hell out of her with a baseball bat before handing it off to another guy and saying “Mark McGwire” her legs.

Jason Greenwell said the noise from the “bat bashing against her legs was making him sick and he couldn’t think,”

An expert testified that Dystiny more than likely died from mechanical asphyxiation but was also suffering from methamphetamine toxicity and blunt force trauma to her head.

Forensic Specialist Kenneth Jones said he found a baseball bat in Rhonda Wisto’s truck that had finger prints and blood on it. He also testified there was a palm print that matched Frank York’s prints.

Mr. Jones also found three samurai swords and brass knuckles in that same blue pick-up truck; two of the swords had blood stains and strands of long, dark hair on them. There were numerous blood stains in the pickup; the blood has not been tested for DNA yet.

Deputy Stuart MacDonald from the coroner’s office said when they discovered 15-year-old Dystiny Myers’ body she was wrapped in a canvas bag, duct tape, several comforters and nylon rope. The young teen was also hog-tied and had sweatpants tied tightly around her neck and gloves in her mouth and throat.

Dystiny also had bruising on her body from her face to her back and down to her legs. She also had fractures on her skull and her eye had been gouged out. Parts of her body, including her face had been burnt beyond recognition.

Detective Eric Twisselman from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department testified that Cody Miller told him that they all beat Dystiny at Rhonda Wisto’s house. After the beating took place they “stuffed her into a duffel bag and taken outside the residence and ultimately placed into the back of a pickup truck,”

Dystiny was still alive at this point and once they got out to the location Cody claims he was “forced” to beat her more, dig a hole and hog-tie her.

When Ty Hill asked how he knew she was dead Cody said that “he rammed a glove down her throat and that he plucked her eye out,”

Detective Burgeson testified that at least two of the suspects admitted to beating Dystiny with a baseball bat, brass knuckles, hands and feet. “I asked Miller why he had kicked Dystiny, and he told me that she was making noise and that he kicked her twice and that she stopped making noise,”

Rhonda Wisto is Frank York’s mother. He told his mother while all this was going that killing someone was the wrong thing to do. Rhonda told her son, sometimes “stuff” has to be done. “She told him that he would be okay and that she loved him and that she wanted the best for him,” Det. Burgeson testified.

They also planned to kill Cody Miller, the plan was to murder him and cut his head off according to Ty Hill. He said after they set Dystiny on fire Ty Hill hit Cody Miller in the head with a shovel and baseball bat, he planned to kill him to because he believed he was a police informant. Cody was able to get away and ran into woods.

They got in the truck and went to Jack in the Box where they spent $8 on tacos and then went home.

Sheriff’s detective Patrick Zuchelli testified that all 5 suspects were under the influence of methamphetamines while they beat and murdered the teenager. He said it was unclear if Dystiny was voluntarily using drugs by the suspects statements.

Mugshot of Cody Miller whose nose was broken due to getting attacked immediately after  Dystiny’s death.

Det. Zuchelli also testified that Frank York also told him he wanted to back out before the beatings began because he was scared but was encouraged not to by his mother.

Ty Hill tried to minimize his role in the plan but eventually gave up and told the detectives everything he knew including he was the one that actually made a “check list” of everything they would need to murder Dystiny and pull the plan off without getting caught. Police found the list when they found the baseball bat that had Dystiny and Cody’s blood on it.

So far the only motive for killing Dystiny is because she was being disrespectful.

The judge has agreed that there is enough evidence to carry the case to trial and all 5 suspects were sentenced and will never see the day of light again.

The family and friend’s of Dystiny all gathered shortly after her brutal murder to remember the good memories of the bright teenager they knew and loved.

The family and loved ones gathered shortly after the brutal murder to celebrate the short  life of Dystiny Myers

Although five suspects were arrested and are awaiting trail… Dystiny’s grandmother, Kathy Clark said she has no closure.

“There really isn’t. We take it one day at a time and we know that Dystiny is with Jesus. I think that’s what keeps me personally going, knowing that Dystiny is at peace with her maker,” said Kathy.

She said her granddaughter was full of life. A generous spirit, involved with the youth program at her church and a volunteer at a homeless shelter.

“When she walked in the room, the party started. Everyone knew Dystiny was there,” said Kathy.

But she said Dystiny was also a teenager who, shortly before her death, started making bad decisions and hanging out with people Kathy didn’t know.

“She went astray and I’m the first to admit it. She went astray. Dystiny was teetering in between the two worlds. She knew right from wrong. But unfortunately when we get caught up with something, it’s so hard to get out of it,” said Kathy.

How does a child go from being active in the church and feeding the homeless to being sucked in by the streets and drugs? A lot of people will blame the mother because she was obviously an addict herself but Dystiny did not live with her mother. Dystiny’s grandmother raised her according to every report I have read and family/friends statements. Surely there were signs that this young girl was getting in over her head so why didn’t someone do something? I guess none of these questions matter now, she is dead. What does matter is that this can happen with any child, it’s up to the parent or guardian to stop it.

Witch Murders in the 21st Century? The torture murder of Rubiya Bibi

Defenceless Woman Branded ‘Witch’

Despite a law in place, poor women from marginalized communities in Jharkhand continue to be branded as ‘witches’ and tortured, murdered, evening burning at the stake.

Mukesh Rajak describes the plight of Rubiya Bibi – a poor Muslim woman and a mother of 4 children from his own district who has been declared as a witch by her rich and influential villagers and brutally tortured. All the torturers were men.

The video shows how, along with the women accused of witchcraft, her children and family also are victimised and isolated from the society. The woman is also not allowed to work.

Jharkhand was one of the first Indian states, to adopt a law against witchcraft-related cruelties and crimes against women. The law – Witchcraft Prevention Act, 2001 provides for severe punishment for those who brand/torture/kill women as ‘witches’.

Ironically, the state still continues to top the list of women branded as witches. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) records state that Jharkhand has witnessed deaths of 249 persons (mostly women) between 2001 and 2008 for “practising witchcraft”. The Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department figures maintain that as many as 1,200 witches managed to survive torture and attacks between 2001 and 2009. The figures suggest that there has been a rise in the number of attacks on women accused of being a ‘witch’.

While the attackers aim to kill the victim, some lucky ones manage to escape. Rubiya was also lucky to have survived. But her in-laws threw her out of their house. Rubiya’s husband who is mentally unstable, was unable to protect her.

Uneducated and denied work, Rubiya has no means to support herself or her children. For her father, a daily wage labourer, its extremely difficult to feed so many mouths. It’s this unjustified sufferings of Rubiya and her family that made Mukesh take up her case to report. He is especially bitter about the way Rubia’s children are ostracized, beaten and taunted every day.

During the shoot of this video Mukesh also spoke to several other victims of witchcraft like Rubia. These meetings made him realize that it is only the poor and defenceless women who are handpicked by their rich and powerful neighbours to be declared ‘witches’.

Mukesh is keenly following the case filed by Ribiya Bibi. He wants  people watching this video to create pressure on the  police of Deogarh to act on the case, so that this woman can get justice under the existing anti-witchcraft law.

Horror as supermarket worker gets arm stuck in a MEAT GRINDER

Gruesome: Authorities were called to an Illinois supermarket to rescue a man whose arm was stuck in a meat grinder.

Gruesome: Authorities were called to an Illinois supermarket to rescue a man whose arm was stuck in a meat grinder

A gruesome scene unfolded at a local Illinois supermarket when authorities were called in to rescue a man who got his arm stuck in a meat grinder.

When members of the Orland Park Fire Department arrived at the scene of the grisly accident, they were shocked to discover a middle-aged store employee with more than half his arm caught in the machine.

Battalion chief Mike Schofield told ABC News that in his 35 years at the department, he had ‘never seen anything like this, other thank watching T.V. shows.’

Though apt, based on witness accounts, it seems that ‘horror movie’ would be a better comparison.

According to Schofield, the man’s was caught so deeply in the gears of the machine that first responders were unable to remove his arm even after dismantling some of the device.

They were hesitant to take apart the entire machine any more for fear of taking off part of his arm.

While the victim was clearly in immense pain, Schofield explained that there wasn’t very much blood at the scene, because the grinder apparently cut of much of the circulation in his arm.

“There wasn’t a lot of blood because his hand was so tight in the meat grinder it almost acted like a tourniquet,” Schofield said.

Realizing that not much more could be done at the supermarket, paramedics took the man to the hospital with part of the device still attached to his arm.

Once there, they decided the only way to extricate the man’s arms from the grinder was by using what Schofield described as a miniature version of the Jaws of Life, the same tool firefighters use to shear through car doors and other metal objects.

“There’s a miniature hydraulic tool that we use to extract smaller items,’ he said. ‘It’s like the jaws of life but it’s a smaller version, so we used it to cut the metal apart and peel back the grinder. That took approximately 20 minutes to do.’

Crushed: Paramedics and doctors had to use a miniature version of the Jaws of Life to cut through the meat grinder.

Schofield said that during the process the man remained relatively calm, despite being in a great deal of pain.

“He was just praying. He was pretty sedated, but he was still in pain,” he said. “We had two paramedics constantly talking to him, reassuring him. We explained every step we were going to do. He was able to tell us when it hurt too much and we were able to back off and the doctors were providing pain medicine for him.”

After firefighters and doctors managed to get the grinder off, pressure returned to the man’s arm and he began bleeding profusely. He was quickly taken of to surgery to repair the damage.

Schofield said that the man’s arm was ‘OK’ but guessed that his hand would be heavily damaged. There were no more updates on the man’s condition.

The Lizzie Borden Legand

English: Lizzie Borden

English: Lizzie Borden (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
And when she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

Photo of the Borden house on 92 Second Street in Fall River, Massachusetts

→ The Borden house that still stands on 92 Second Street may now be a bed and breakfast but on August 4, 1892 it was witness to one of the most brutal, unsolved murders in American history. We may never know what really happened that day.

The History
To start from the very beginning – Andrew Borden was one of the richest men in the city of Fall River, he was a self-made businessman with important titles such as President of Union Savings Bank, Durfee Safe Deposit and many others. He had two daughters with his first wife Sarah Morse. The eldest being Emma Borden who was born March 1st of 1851 and the youngest, Lizzie Borden born July 19th 1860. Lizzie would not grow to know her biological mother because in March of 1863 Sarah died of a hemorrhage. On January 18th 1865 Andrew was remarried to Abby Gray, a women that will be remembered due to her graphic departure from life.

It was close to 9am when Lizzie walked down the stairs of her home like many mornings since the family bought the home in 1872. She saw her Stepmother Abby dusting the dining room, Her father Andrew sitting in his large chair in the sitting room and Bridget – the maid who the Borden sister’s insisted on calling ‘Maggie’ which was the name of a pervious servant – was grabbing her pail of water and long pole with a brush to go wash the windows.

Although Bridget had cooked breakfast earlier Lizzie had said she was not hungry and instead had a cup of coffee, Her father had mentioned he might not go to the post office and mail a letter to Emma his eldest daughter who was in Fair Haven for two weeks visiting friends. Earlier that morning about 7am Lizzie’s Uncle John Morse who was the brother of Andrew’s first wife Sarah had left to go visit his nice and nephew. He made several visit’s a year from his home in Dartmouth to visit family and conduct business in Fall River.

Around 9:15 Andrew Borden left and went downtown while Abby went upstairs to make the bed that John was staying in. At 9:30 Abby come downstairs only for a moment till she decided she needed fresh pillowcases and went back up. Bridget continued to wash the outside windows and stop for a few minutes to talk with the hired girl next door, around 10:30 she had gone inside to begin cleaning the inside windows. It’s said during this time Lizzie sat in the kitchen reading an old Harper’s magazine and eating a pear while she waited for the iron to heat up to press some handkerchiefs. Fifteen minutes later Andrew returned home, and was told by his daughter Lizzie, “Mrs. Borden has gone out – she had a note from someone who was sick. The Borden daughters would only address Abby as ‘Mrs. Borden’. He then went to lay down and take a nap in the sitting room, he was completely unaware that his wife was laying dead in the guestroom in a pool of her blood; he also didn’t know he was never to wake from his nap.

Bridget had gone up to her room in the attic to take a nap while Lizzie went to the barn looking for a lead sinker because she planned on going fishing the following Monday, she claimed she had been in the barn for twenty minutes while she ate some more pears she had picked off the pear tree. Afterwards she entered the house and went to the dining room to lay her hat down.

“Maggie, Come down!” Lizzie shouted from the stairs, abruptly waking Bridget from her restless sleep. “What is the matter?” Bridget shouted back as she slipped her shoes on and rushed down the staircase. “Come down quick!” Lizzie screamed out, “Father’s dead! Somebody’s come in and killed him!”

Crime scene photo of Andrew Jackson Borden, Lizzie claimed to have walked into the “sitting room” where she found her father’s murdered body.

Bridget found Lizzie by the back door, her face colorless. Bridget was stopped from entering the sitting room by Lizzie who ordered “Don’t go in there. Go and get the doctor. Run!” Dr. Bowen was a family friend and had only lived across the street, making Bridget’s run fast. Dr. Bowen wasn’t in but Mrs. Bowen was so Bridget told her that Andrew Borden had been killed; She ran back to the Borden house. “Where where you when this thing happened?”

She asked Lizzie “I was out in the yard, and I heard a groan and came in. The screen door was wide open.” Lizzie responded, she then sent Bridget to get the Borden Daughter’s friend, Miss Alice Russell who lived a few blocks away. The neighbors were starting to gather on Lizzie’s lawn, someone had called the police.

Her next door neighbor, Mrs. Adelaide Churchill came over to Lizzie who was still at the back entrance of the house and asked what was wrong, Lizzie responded,
“Oh Mrs. Churchill, someone has killed my father!”
“Where is your father?” she asked,
“In the sitting room.”
“Where were you when it happened?”
“I went to the barn to get a piece of iron.”
“Where is your mother?”

Lizzie said she didn’t know and that her stepmother had received a note asking her to respond to someone who was sick. Soon Dr. Bowen arrived and examined Andrew’s body, Dr. Bowen could not identify the body at first, seven large blows had gashed his face, his nose had been severed and one eye had been cut in half. Most of the blows had been within the area of the eyes, nose and ears. Blood still seeped from the wounds when he had a sheet cover Mr. Borden, but Abby was still unaccounted for. Lizzie had claimed she was sure Abby had come home and Bridget and Mrs. Churchill went upstairs to find Abby dead on the floor of the guestroom.

Above and below are both crime scene photos of Abby Borden at different angles. Lizzie claimed to have not known about her mothers murder until Bridget and Mrs. Churchill went up and discovered her.

Mrs. Churchill would later say that she only “Looked like the form of a person.”, she like her husband had been beaten to death by an axe. Dr. Bowen noticed that Abby had been struck over a dozen times from the back of her head, in her autopsy it was revealed that there was nineteen blows to the head.

The axe used to murder Mr & Mrs Borden is now believed to be part of the Lizzie Borden museum located in Fall River, MA

Pictured above: Crime scene (close-up) of Andrew Borden’s butchered body.

Crime scene photo showing the back of Abby Borden’s butchered head.

The next hour or so at the Borden home was chaotic, people were all over the house sneaking looks at the gruesome state of the bodies and comforting Lizzie. All the people had destroyed any clues that could have been left behind; The reason being the annual picnic of the Fall River Department was hosted that day and only one officer had gone to the Borden house, George W. Allen, and after only being there a few moments he had ran the 400 yards back to the department to tell the city marshal the gruesome details.

On August 12th 1892 Lizzie was arrested for the murders of her father Andrew and stepmother Abby. The trial lasted from June 5th of ‘93 to June 19th. Although people had testified that only days earlier Lizzie tried to buy poison from a Smith‘s drug store, Miss Alice Russell said she had seen Lizzie burn a dress in the kitchen stove, and the fact that Lizzie’s story was barely believable because the barn she claimed to be in was dusty and untouched, the ‘letter’ Abby had supposedly received was never found and that her motive was clear because her father was going to rewrite his will leaving almost everything to Abby instead of his daughters, she was found not guilty on all counts by a jury of twelve middle-aged farmers and salesmen.

Five weeks after the trial had ended Lizzie (Who at this point went by ‘Lizbeth’ instead) and her sister Emma bought a thirteen bedroom Victorian house at 306 French St. on ‘The Hill’ which was the most fashionable area of the city. Lizzie had the name of her new home carved into the top step leading to the front door, this house was dubbed ‘Maplecroft’. In 1904 Lizzie befriended a young actress, Nance O’Neil who was rumored to be having an affair with Lizzie, She would often throw parties for her new friend at Maplecroft. In 1905 Emma and Lizzie got into a fight of an unknown subject and Emma moved away, the two never spoke again.

On June 1st 1927 Lizzie died after a long illness from complications of gall bladder surgery. Strangely enough Emma died only a few days later on June 10th after falling down the stairs at her home. They were buried in plots next to Andrew and Abby.

Many theories still float around as to what went down that day, but who ever had killed Andrew and Abby has brought their secret to the grave with them, all that is left is spirits who will never rest until this mystery is solved.
